DEVENIR ÎLE (BECOMING ISLAND)
DEVENIR ÎLE // Une exposition de Naghmeh Sharifi
Présentée à l'espace Colis suspect de l’aéroport des Îles-de-la-Madeleine jusqu'au 2 juillet 2023.
L’exposition « Devenir île » fait suite à la résidence de Naghmeh Sharifi à AdMare. Lors de celle-ci, Naghmeh a articulé une recherche sur le corps en tant qu’espace vécu. Elle a élaboré un processus de travail inspiré du paysage des Îles-de-la-Madeleine et de ses habitant·e·s. Naghmeh a moulé des parties du corps de différentes personnes, ainsi que des formations terrestres, telles que des rochers, afin d’en faire émerger une installation sculpturale.
En fusionnant ses différents moulages, Naghmeh a travaillé avec la forme et l’informe pour créer une installation où les masses rassemblées évoquent une forme d’île. L’installation s’inspire en partie de la relation entre la topographie et la géologie, ainsi que de l’érosion et de la vulnérabilité des îles sous l’effet de la force de la nature.

The exhibition "Devenir île" Becoming Island is a culmination of my residency at AdMare in the Magdalen Islands. During this period, I furthered my explorations of the body as lived space and developed a working process inspired by the unique landscape of the Islands and its impacts on the inhabitants from land to water. Various casts were made from body parts of inhabitants, land formations such as rocks, bones of whales as well as found materials such as salt crystals from the Island mines and fishing nets. The final installation is the result of working with the forms and formlessness to evoke an archipelago-shaped mass. The installation is inspired in part by the relationship between topography and geology, as well as the erosion and vulnerability of the Magdalen islands at the force of nature.
